Our membership
includes twenty municipalities, counties, and dischargers located in the upper Clear
Creek watershed in Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties. As such, we have a responsibility
to review the potential impacts to water quality from the proposed MMRR mining
operation.
We have recently become aware that the quarry has initiated the permitting process
with the County. We would like to request that UCCWA be included on the County's
referral list for this project. We recognize that aggregate mining operations provide an
essential product; and we are certain that the various permitting and regulatory
agencies of the State of Colorado can work together to promote and enforce a "big
picture" perspective that provides overall environmental, social, and economic
sustainability.
Respectfully,
/s/
Dale Lauer, 2007 UCCWA Chair
cc: Division Reclamation, Mining & Safety-Carl Mount, Loretta_Pineda, Ron Cattany
Division of Minerals and Geology-Thomas Schreinec._Bruc~liump~rie~
