5.0 Monitoring Requirements
'The primary environmental monitoring requirements are specified in CDPS Permit No. CO-
0047562 (see Attachment E) and summarized on Table 1 below. The permit has only one
sampling point, which can be either the Polish Tank or the discharge line from the Polish Tank.
Preprinted Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs) are to be completed on a weekly basis and
submitted to the Colorado Division of Water Quality Control every month (i.e., by the 28~' day
of the following month).
The BLM has requested that monthly split samples be collected and analyzed by an independent
3`d party during exploration. Additional environmental monitoring and/or reporting may be
required by the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety and the Bureau of Land
Management as part of the mine permitting process. Any such requirements will be added to the
monitoring summary table.
System monitoring by the treatment operator will also be required on a daily basis. As discussed
in Section 6.0 of the Mine Water Treatment Report (see Attachment A), the pumping system,
waterlines, tanks, and treatment plant should be checked periodically during each operating shift.
A daily checklist is to be developed and used to document water treatment performance. Once
the Webmaster system is operating and all safeguards (e.g., automatic shutoffs) are in place, it
maybe possible to reduce field monitoring levels.
7
