ORIGINAL - PUBLIC FILE
(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1998-011
INSPECTION DATE: 1 119Rm7 INSPECTORS INITIALS: R1(_
OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted a monitoring inspection of the site as part of sites to be
inspected during the fiscal years 2007-2008. Present during the inspection was
Mr. Howard Sumpster of Las Animas Co.
1) Site is a small 9.9 acre sand and gravel operation located in South East Las Animas
County approximately 10 miles North East of Kim Colorado.
2) Site was not active at the time of the inspection. According to Howard, once the
current active mining area is depleted, reclamation will commence. He also said
site is only active on as need basis.
3) A berm was properly placed around the perimeter of the pit area. Existing pit
slopes were at 3:1 with pit depths no more than 6 feet were noted at the time of
the inspection.
4) Over burden and Top soil stockpiles were located along the North and west side of
the permit area. Top soil was properly protected and no sign of erosion was noted.
What appeared to be two processed stockpiled material was noted along the North
West side of the permit area.
5) Permit sign and boundary marker posts were properly posted.
6) Given the lack of adequate top soil in the area, operator is encouraged to continue
salvaging all available growth medium.
7) At present approximately 6 acres appeared to have been affected. No concurrent
reclamation noted. No noxious weed infestation observed.
8) The operation is in compliance with the approved permit.
9) Given the difficulty of finding county road maps, the Division request the operator
to place all their approved permits on a county map and supply it with their annual
report.
I & E Contact Address IF SE (CH)
NAME: PHIL DORENKAMP F OTHER
OPERATOR: A ANIMAS CO
STREET: 900ON INDFN AVF
CITY/STATE/ZIP: TRINnAD C'Q 81082
cc: F CE
IF BL
IF FS,
IF HW
r HMWMD (CH)
IF
