ORIGINAL -PUBLIC FILE <br />(Page 2) <br />MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ti^--~ 999-n~- <br />INSPECTION DATE: W~Rin7 INSPECTOR^SZNITIALS: -~K- <br />OBSERVATIONS <br />The Division conducted a monitoring inspection of the site as part of sites to be <br />inspected during the fiscal years 2007-2008. Present during the inspection was <br />Mr. Howard Sumpster of Las Animas Co. <br />1) Site is a small 9.9 acre sand and gravel operation located in South East Las Animas <br />County. <br />2) Site was active at the time of the inspection. Top soil was being removed in <br />anticipation of opening up a new area of mining. <br />3) A berm was properly placed around the perimeter of the pit area. Existing pit <br />slopes were at 3:1 slope or gentler. <br />4) Over burden and Top soil stockpiles were located along the west and south East side <br />of t:he permit area. Top soil was properly protected and no sign of erosion was <br />noted. <br />5) Permit sign and boundary markers were properly posted. <br />6) Mr.Sumpster wanted to know what the DBMS process was to reduce acres that are not <br />affected, and add the same amount of acres to the permit. He was notified that if <br />Las Animas County wants to add affected acres to the permit by reducing the same <br />amount of acres with out exceeding the 9.9 acres, a revision to the permit has to <br />be :submitted. The acres that were not affected under the current permit, can be <br />rel~:ased from the permit and similar acres can be added. A new map showing the new <br />surveyed acres will need to be provided at the time of the submittal of the <br />Amendment. The Division will verify the fat that the acres being released have not <br />been affected prior to approving the release and the whole approval process will <br />not take more than 30 days. <br />7) At present approximately 4-5 acres appeared to have been affected. No concurrent <br />reclamation noted.
