III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology (CDMG). This mine site consists of two, separate reclaimed areas; a
coal loadout/tipple area and a portal/refuse pile area, separated geographically by a rocky
ridgeline. Ground conditions on this day were dry and the weather was mild.
Hydrologic Balance
The lone sediment pond located on the bench area at the former portal location was dry.
Revegetation
Vegetation consists mostly of rabbitbrush with an understory of grasses, forbs, and annual
weeds. The growing season is basically over for this year and grasses have dried down due
to frost. (Portal bench area shown below)
tgx:4a': @
I
Mil
Offsite Support Facilities
The coal loadout/sales yard is geographically removed from the portal area. A single pond at
this site was found dry and the revegetated area appeared normal with nothing unusual
observed.
Overall, the area appeared in fair condition for the late fall season.
3
