Hayden Gulch Loadout; pg. 2
Mr. Hernandez's inspection report dated November 19, 2007, contains an accurate accounting of
the culverts that need inlet and/or outlet maintenance to ensure they function properly during~a
design event rainfall or surface water runoff from snowmelt. The only suggestion I would.add is
the small irrigation ditches and railroad right of way adjacent to culvert inlets and outlets should
have the vegetation control burned during weather appropriate for a control burn.
Both sediment ponds and their associated runoff control ditches at the Loadout are functioning as
designed. The headgate on the principal spillway of the truck loop pond has been recently
repaired and apparently sealed shut with concrete. The spillway appeared to be functional.
Neither pond was close to discharge during the inspection.
No noticeable activity has occurred at this site since my last inspection here in 2000. PEABODY
dba Seneca Coal Company has moved their office staff from the former Seneca II Mine office
location into two trailers located on the Loadout permit area. The office location includes an
approved leach field, an electric power substation, and is also approved as a small area draining
exemption. There were no surface runoffproblems identified on the Loadout or office areas
inspected. There is potential to redesign the Loadout to serve as a coal loadin facility serviced by
the railroad spur. This concluded our inspection. _
Please address any questions concerning this inspection report to Henry Austin at
haustin e,osznre.gov or to (303) 844-1400 x1466.
