Subsidence antl Geologic Field Observations
Apache Rocks and Box Canyon Mining Areas
July 12-t5, 2004
The ptmd dam is about 100 feet long. The pond currently is about 90 feet wide (in the cast-
wcst direction), 125 feet long (in the north-south direction), and about 3.5 feet deep in the
center (judging from the water height on a cow standing in the middle of the pond). The
dimensions of the pond when full arc cwtimated to be IUO feet wide, 175 feet long, and 5.5 to
6 feet deep.
The pond level appears to be roughly the same level as the levels observed in other spring-fed
ponds in the West Glk mining area. For example, the ponds in Horse Gulch arc estimated to
beat the some relative level as this pond.
Uverburdcn depth to the t3 Scam is about 2,225 feet.
The source of water is from an intermittent spring flow located about 1,000 feet south of the
pond in a thick aspen grove. Although a well established, nu•:utdcring channel is present
between the spring and the pond, the spring appears to he ephrmcral, flowing only in
Figure 73. Northward wew o1 stock watering Pond P23.4. The pond is located about 2.200 feet above
the eastern edge of mined longwall panel 22.
831-032.(ri0
September 2004
Wright Water Engineers.
