Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Apache Rocks and Box Canyon Mining Areas
July 12-15.2004
Location 6:
Point is located in an area containing irregular, branching, and diverging crocks on the narrow
part of the ridge on West Flatiron (Figure 8).
Figure 8. Irregular, branching and diverging crocks in clay of the Wasatch Formation, located on top of
Wost Flatiron.
• The cracks are located above projceted headgate entries of un-mined longwall panel 19.
Overburden depth to the H Seam is slightly greater than 2,200 feet.
• The crocks, which are located in weathert~tl clay of the Wasatch Fornuuion, trend roughly
parallel to the ridge (northward) and art as much as 1.3 inches wide and 10 to I S fv~a long.
• The crocks appear to be primarily caused by a lateral wmponent o(gravity spreading into the
dcxp canyon on either sidc~Box Canyon to the west and Raven Creek to the cast. llowcvcr,
there may be a component of desiccation as well.
• Summary of observations about crocks on Coot traverse F-F':
83t-032.610 Wright WaterEnglneeB, Inc.
