Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Apache Rocks and Box Canyon Mining Areas
July 12-15, 2004
4.1.4 Traverse D-D'
Vehicle traverse from fork in roads at D' to methane drainage well site MDW-22-03.
• Traversed above un-mined longwall panels 24 and 23 and above mined Iongwall panel 22 on
top of West Flatiron.
• Weathered bedrock, colluvium, and local soil were encountered on and neaz the road.
• The overburden depth to the B Seam ranges from 2,050 to 2,200 feet.
Location 2:
Point is located on top of a cliff that occurs in the uppermost massive sandstone of the Ohio
Creek Member of the Mesaverde Formation. The point is also located at the head scarp of Box
Canyon.
• The point is located above mined longwall pane122, about 300 feet south of the four tailgate
entries of the panel. The overburden depth to the B Seam is about 2,200 feet.
• The location was selected to provide a baseline image (higher resolution image than was
taken last yeaz) of a rockfall and landslide azea, which is located on the east side of Box
Canyon above an un-mined azea in order to compaze with the condition of the landslide after
mining is completed.
• The landslide is located above the projected tailgate entries of un-mined longwall panel 19
and the northern, middle part of the panel (Figure 4 and Map 1).
831-032.640 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
