Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Apache Rocks and Box Canyon Mining Areas
July 12-15, 2004
3.0 OVERVIEW OF FIELD SUBSIDENCE STUDIES DURING JULY 12 -15, 2004
The author used his personal 4-wheel drive vehicle during this fieldwork. An all-terrain vehicle
(ATV) was not available. The 4-wheel drive Toyota pickup worked efficiently. However, it was
necessary to make eight foot traverses in areas where the vehicle could not travel.
Prior field knowledge and experience during past field studies indicated that coal mine
subsidence features (cracks and bulges) will most likely be observed on roads, trails, and azeas
clear of brush. These azeas were therefore selected in order to most efficiently obtain maximum
subsidence information.
831-032.640 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 7
September 2004
