~~
BRL states that no samples were collected from the small area exemptions (SAES) located
within the permit area. Page 2.0~-32 of the permit states that BRL will monitor the flow from
the SAES to assure compliance with Rule 4.052(3), and the applicant will use its best efforts
to obtain samples. With the exception of the pump station located near Deer Trail Ditch, BRL
provides no explanation for the lack of sampling at the SAE locations. Please explain why
samples were not collected from the SAE areas. If appropriate, provide revised page(s).
2. A full suite sample was not provided for the Deer Trail Ditch (downstream location) during the
second quarter of 1998. Please submit the required data or provide an explanation for the lack
of monitoring.
3. Quarterly field pazameters and semi-annual full suite analyses were not provided for DH-34B.
BRL provided comments that the bailer leaked during attempts to sample, and in the fourth
quarter there was too much sediment. From the information provided, it appears that there is
approximately 250 feet of standing water in the drill hole. This appears to be a viable well and
an adequate sample should be obtained. If necessary, please consider redeveloping the well to
remove the accumulated sediment.
4. According to the permit document, Ponds 1 through 5 will be monitored quarterly. The
following information should be collected for the ponds: 1) inflow, 2) outflow, and 3) water
level or depth of water. Inflow and outflow have not been measured consistently. Inflow
was only provided for Pond 1, and outflow was not provided for any of the ponds. Please
provide an explanation for the lack of inflow and outflow monitoring. Please provide .
revised report pages, if deemed appropriate.
1998 Annual Subsidence Report
The subsidence monitoring report for 1998 consists of a one summary page. Mining initiated in
1997 had not impacted any of the concerned springs, ponds or landslides as of the completion of
this annual subsidence report.
Visual inspection of the known historic and modem landslides was conducted by David Jenkel.
No new or rejuvenated landsliding was discerned during Mr. Jenkel's inspections in June and
November of 1998.
1998 Annual Mine Inflow Report
Mine inflow information was reported for 1998. There was no measurable mine water inflow
during 1998, and the mine has not discharged any water from the undergroundworkings. The Mine
Inflow Report is acceptable as submitted.
