Joseph Sullivan , Chairman
March 7, 1980
Page Two
A technical revision of the permit was requested in
April 1979 relative to Area 10, Ryan' s Pit and Storage . The
revision will allow continued aggregate production from this
area according to projected needs.
Grass seeding of the topsoil stockpile (Area 21 ) and
associated roads accomplished in the Fall of 1978 did well in
1979 and is providing a good vegetative cover . Several
hundred tree and shrub seedlings were planted on the topsoil
stockpile in 1970 .
Continued tailing deposition now affects about 390
acres. That figure and the other disturbances inside the
tailing basin (bypass canal , roads, pipelines and topsoil
removal) puts us within the 425 acres of anticipated affected
land designated for the tailing in the timetable for 1979 .
Other 1979 activities included :
1 . At the mine site an addition was made to the west end of
the compressor building . A third exhaust ventilation
fan and elbow were constructed at number one shaft. . A
fuel storage island with a capacity of 157, 000 gallons
was constructed .
2 . In the mill yard construction on a fourth primary ball
mill and associated facilities was begun. Temporary
construction administration office buildings were
implaced as a part of the mill expansion project.
Additional equipment maintenance buildings were
constructed which will be taken over by the maintenance
department upon completion of the construction project .
Because the acreage of affected land is changing daily
( tailing deposition) , our original application suggested that
we would update the surety yearly at annual report time.
When the Board acted on the application, they indicated that
a biannual surety update would be adequate. We have
recalculated the reclamation costs in accordance with that
directive and upon your approval , will provide a surety for
the new amount.
The recalculated reclamation costs ar $2 , 596 , 000 >
covering 1232 acres of affected land (within It
boundary of 6628 . 6 acres) and covers the period 1980 through
1981 at which time the annual report will again recompute and
update the surety. A copy of the recomputation is enclosed .
