IV. GROUND WATER <br /> A. Operational Ground Water Monitoring Program <br /> The operational ground water monitoring program as approved in <br /> the Nucla Mine Permit is detailed in Appendix A (Attachment A), <br /> Reduction of Monitoring for the Nucla Strip. The location of each <br /> of the well sites and pertinent site information are presented on <br /> Exhibit 1 and Table 21, respectively. Included on this map and <br /> table are those sites which have been established subsequent to <br /> implementation of the monitoring program outlined in Appendix A; <br /> specifically, wells GW-N23 through N25 were installed this summer <br /> (1986) to gather baseline ground water information in the scraper <br /> area. The remaining additional wells which were installed this <br /> summer were dedicated to gathering baseline ground water <br /> information for the Nucla East Mine area. Upon completion, each of <br /> these new wells have been monitored monthly for water levels and <br /> sampled quarterly for water quality for those parameters listed in <br /> Table 22, excluding the wells to be used as aquifer test <br />• piezometers. Well completion data and lithologic logs for these <br /> new wells are presented in Appendix D. Figures 14, 15, and 16 are <br /> well completion schematics for these recently installed wells. <br />Additions to the existing ground water monitoring network are <br />also proposed for 1981. Three spoils wells are proposed for the <br />reclaimed areas. Figure 16a is a generic well completion schematic <br />for the proposed wells to be completed in reclaimed spoil. The <br />locations of these additional wells are shown on Exhibit 1. The <br />three spoils wells will be completed in order to better define and <br />evaluate the quality and quantity of water in the reclaimed areas. <br />Ground water levels are measured to the nearest hundreth of a foot <br />from the top of the well casing using a Soil Test water level <br />probe. The probe battery is tested daily upon use and the accuracy <br />of the probe is checked against a steel measuring tape whenever the <br />probe tip is replaced.
