Long
RE: Colowyo Mine (C-S1-019) Drvis~on Dueclor
1993 Annual Hydrology Report
I have completed a review of Colowyo's 1993 AHR. Monitoring is conducted at the following
locations:
Surface Water
Upper (upstream) and Lower (downstream) Goodspring Creek
Taylor Creek (downstream from mining)
Ground Water
Gossard Well (downgradient of the loadout)
A-6 Well (upgradient) and North Goodspring Well (downgradient)
To date, monitoring results indicate normal seasonal fluctuations in 9uantity and quality.
Monitoring data indicate there are not yet any significant impacts from mlmng, and that the data
fall within the baseline ranges for all sites. I dId not notice any trends that were disturbing or
would warrant further investigation. I did, however, notice a number of problems with
monitoring program compliance at the site. The operator should be asked to explain these
omissions of data or failures to monitor. They are as follows:
1. There were no temperatures recorded for the New Upper Goodspring Creek (NUGC)
or the Lower Goodspring Creek (LGC) locations in May and July of 1993.
2. There is no flow measurement reported for NUGC or LGC for July 1993.
3. It does not appear as though Colowyo conducted required monitoring at the Taylor Creek
surface water site during the third quarter of 1993.
4. There is no temperature recording for the Taylor Creek site in May 1993.
5. There is no report of nitrate or phosphate levels at the Taylor Creek site for the second
quarter of 1993.
6. There are no water level reports for the North Goodspring Creek, Gossard, or the A-6
wells in March 1993.
7. There are no temperature recordings for the A-6 or Gossard wells in March 1993.
