The <br />small azea on the northwest side of the pit is where clay was mined, to be used as a binder <br />when applied to the roads with the sand and gravel extracted from the river channel. <br />Lincoln County no longer extracts material from the streambed and the clay portion of <br />the pit. The stream banks are being sloped in a 4:1 ratio and the clay extraction area will <br />be graded, sloped, fertilized and seeded according to the recommended reclamation plan. <br />
