ANNUAL REPORT
Permit No: M-1985-212
Operation Name: Arkins Park Quarries
Map Summary: There have been no changes to the map on file with the Division of inerals and Geology.
Current Disturbances: There have been no significant changes to the current disturbances reflected on the
maps on file with the Division of Minerals and Geology.
New Disturbances for the Upcoming Year: We do not anticipate significantly 1 arying our currently
disturbed areas beyond what we have previously mapped for the Division of Minerals and Geology. As of the
date of this report, there are no plans to open-up any new quarrying areas on the lauds con ained under this
permit.
Reclamation Accomplished To Date and During the Preceding Year:
To Date: All reclamation "to date" has been reported to, and is in the files of, de Division of
Minerals and Geology.
During the Preceding Year: The Arkins Park Quarries are being mined on an on-going basis and
we did not actively reclaim the areas last year. Many of the areas in these quarries have, o er the years,
spontaneously reclaimed themselves without any active reclamation on our part. As Moth r Nature takes its
course and trees and native vegetation re-seeds itself into disturbed areas, the trees, plants and grasses are
encouraged to grow and we try not to disturb anything we don't have to.
In response to a few of our neighbors' concerns regarding the visual impacts of ou quarries, we are in
the process of constructing some cosmetic "band-aids" along some of the quarry road cuts and over the rip-rap
piles in front of our saw facility. To date, these areas have been covered with topsoil and ompost has been
harrowed into the topsoil. At the appropriate time, the areas will be hydro-seeded using a oothills native seed
mix at the rate of 30 Ibs/pls per acre. The areas will then be hydro-mulched at the manufacturer's recommended
rate. Eventually, after the areas have established grass growth, native shrubs and trees ma be planted in a
manner that should be aesthetically pleasing to passersby. Additional cosmetic "band-aids"may be constructed
on other road cuts and rip-rap piles where it is feasible and where there is minimal chance of disturbance due to
ruining and mining related activities.
Reclamation Planned During the Coming Year: Aside from the cosmetic "bar d-aids" mentioned
above, at this time no final reclamation is planned for these quarries in the coming year. As stated above, these
quarries are mined on a continual basis. Any reclamation that is undertaken in the next year will most likely be
for ground stabilization, if necessary, within and around the quarries rather than final reclamation.
In accordance with our permit, reclamation will occur in stages as the quarries are depleted. It is
difficult, however, to determine a timetable for the actual depletion of an area or part of a area in our quarries
because of the unpredictability of the quality and quantity of marketable stone still availat le in the deposit.
These sandstone quarries are mined rather slowly in order to develop the deposit rather tlr in exploit it.
Operations Status: We operate the Loveland quarries on a full-time basis. Operatio is in these quarries are
continuous during fair weather, when the area can be typically found without frost, ice, in ich precipitation,
extremely low temperatures or high winds. Therefore, we have no concrete beginning or essation dates to
report.
Sufficiency of Financial Warranty: Our reclamation bond is guaranteed by an ir evocable letter of
credit from the Berthoud National Bank, Berthoud, Colorado, and on file with the Division of Minerals and
Geology, acknowledging the liability at $50,000.00. We believe at this time that this is a ufficient value.
