Only unfiltered samples were collected at all sampling locations, <br />including the surface water location, process points and groundwater wells. <br />The following analytical determinations were performed on all samples collected for this trip: <br />total cyanide, WAD cyanide, and total metals (calcium, copper, iron, sodium and zinc). <br />Nitrate + nitrite was not determined on samples from this trip. Only utfiltered samples <br />were collected at all locations. Consequently, neither the barrel filter nor the in-line filter <br />assemblies were used for filtration of groundwater samples, and the rinse blank included only <br />washing and rinsing of the sample collection bucket and the 600-m1 transfer beaker. <br />2.1 FIELD MEASUREMENTS <br />The dissolved oxygen and pH/conductivity/temperature meters were calibrated each morning <br />using pH 7 and ]0 buffers, 1433 µS/cm conductivity standard and an air calibration for the <br />dissolved oxygen meter. The dissolved oxygen meter was not operating properly during this <br />sampling trip. Measured dissolved oxygen readings were above 100% saturation for the <br />relevant elevations, and all dissolved oxygen measurements (for RS-5, Upper Tailings <br />Impoundment, Lower Tailings Impoundment, and the Collection Impoundment) are not <br />considered reliable. Aback-up meter and probe would have obviated this problem with <br />dissolved oxygen field measurements. In addition, the generator required ,jump starting at <br />the shop for both days of the sampling trip. <br />2.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL SAMPLES <br />The rinse blank (taken before collection of groundwater well sample M-13) was prepared <br />by washing the green plastic bucket and the 600-m1 plastic beaker with soapy water, followed <br />by a tap water rinse and finally by a DI rinse. The washing procedure was then repeated <br />for a total of two washes/rinses. The rinse blank was taken by filling the green bucket with <br />approximately four liters of DI, pouring the DI from the bucket into the 600-m1 plastic <br />beaker and then into the sample bottles. The groundwater sampling hose was <br />decontaminated without soap during this trip because the soap is apparently difficult to <br />completely rinse out of the sampling hose. <br />As on the last three third-party monitoring trips, the DI water used for rinsing and field/rinse <br />blanks was second-stage DI water from BMRI's San Luis lab (which was finished through <br />the final three columns of the ion-exchange system). <br />RCG/Hagler Badly <br />
