ANNUAL REPORT
Operator: United Companies of Mesa County, Inc.
Operation: Corey Gravel Pit
File Number: M-1987-024
Anniversary Date: April 17, 2001
This pit was active during the past year. Gravel mining, processing, storage and sales
were performed during the year. Approximately 2 acres have been sloped and graded at
the southwestern corner of the disturbed area. Product stockpiles remain on the permit
area. The stockpiles remaining on site contain CDOT Class 6 and CDOT Class 3 road
base.
Mining at this permit has been completed. The last active mining area, located at the
south part of the permit, has been graded to final slope and configuration. Topsoil has
been distributed on part of the final slope. A small additional area was mined very early
in 2001. This area is being filled with crusher reject material to achieve final
configuration and match the remainder of the final slope.
As described in CDMG Reclamation Specialist Bob Oswald's report of the Feb. 23, 2001
inspection, a small ditch has been excavated to collect"seepage". This seepage is waste
water from the irrigated field on top of the hill that migrates through the gravel deposit
and appears at the toe of the excavated slope in the mining area. United Companies will
be covering the damp area of the pit floor, where the seepage is appearing, with sub soil
and topsoil during the reclamation of the site.
Reclamation should begin this year with distribution and grading of stockpiled soils.
