Oi ii''.~Bl ~1253Ei•CGS
We have spoken to Dick Bowman, the division's district engineer for Mesa
County; Bob Renner, CMLRD hydrologist; and yourself concerning possible
discharges of spoils-contaminted xastewater at the Cameo Mine.
Mr. Renner stated that the wastewater which he described was the result of
some small "seeps" around the refuse disposal site, all of which were well
below one gallon per minute in flow rate. All flowed to pond 6, which has not
discharged as a result of the "seeps." He considers the flow insignificant.
Mr. Bowman could not confirm the existence of such "seeps" through his site
visit, although the "seeps" now appear to be what you describe in item 3) of
your January 16, 1986, letter.
Our conclusion is that this flow is insignificant and does not affect surface
water quality at the present. We will not require that the permit be amended.
Should flow volume significantly increase or other relevant factors change,
you should inform the division so that appropriate action can be taken.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.
Sincere y,
~.V 1 ~.~?(1~ "
Jon C. ubic
Engineering 1`echnician
Permits and Enforcement Section
WATER QUALITY CONTROL DIVISION
JCR/n,jf
zc: Rpbert Liddle, Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
Dick Bowman, D.E., Field Services Section, WQCD
Karen Young, Permits and ffiforcement Section, WQCD
- _.. ....-. .. .~ .. ~... •~r~ ~~~ /1e~~e~/1 ~~~ww ~..~~.r /n/~n\ nnn nono
