This letter also serves as a follow-up
discussion to the March 29 message that I recorded on yj!our
voice mail. tG/ J'r off ~:^1l~. a ,..«.f1 ~ ~~ ((~' 'x
uFy'r/-- ni / rParh,a+r~j c.. t IL(t "f•~f K~-~'f~ arrY /~if'.7
During the week of March 21-27, the active (lower) pond
averaged 2.94 ppm CN-wad and 5.06 ppm CN-total. The
collection pond averaged 1.08 ppm CN-wad and 1.55 ppm CN-
total. The weekly sample of the inactive (upper) pond,
collected on March 24, showed 2.96 ppm CN-wad and
3.87 ppm CN-total.
on March ze, a concern on the routing of overflow material
from the cyanide mix tank was identified. The overflopw from
the mix tank was directed to the grinding area sump, then to
tailings pump box, and finally to the tailings disposal area.
The control valve on the make-up water line into the cyanide
mix tank malfunctioned. An estimated 3 tank volumes x(8600 J, / (~j/,
gallons) containing a maximum of 6,000 pounds of sodium - ,
cyanide overflowed from the mix tank and reported to the ,
tailings disposal area. The control valve on the water line
to the cyanide mix tank has bean repaired. Overflow inateriall•-~~
from the cyanide mix tank has been re-plumbed and is pow ~e~~<~/
directed to the leach circuit sumps where the material will bef~,,, r
placed back into the milling process rather than sent to the ~`
tailings disposal area. f~~~r~
~'~ ~.a~..~,
with the overflow material entering the tailings disposal ~
area, the cyanide concentrations in the active pond increased ~<yyf,~~~
The highest concentration was reported on March 27 with
values of 6.97 ppm CN-wad and 9.49 ppm CN-total. Sy March 283
the cyanide levels had decreased to 4.33 ppm CN-wad ai9d 8.G7
ppm CN-total. The levels appear to be decreasing.
