- Wadge Overburden. Most of the four current Wadge overburden wells <br />monitored exhibit seasonal variations typical of the overburden aquifer <br />(i.e., shallow in the spring or summer, deepening in the fall). Wells <br />WOV14, 16, and 17 all exhibited an increase in water levels over since <br />1996. Water levels observed this year We11s WOV16 and 17 fell within <br />their historic ranges. Well WOV18 had exhibited a decrease in water <br />levels in 1998 to 2000, but they are now slowly increasing. Wells WOV4-1 <br />and 4-2 were in the II-W South Expansion area. Monitoring at these two <br />wells was resumed in 1997 after being discontinued in 1985. Both of <br />these wells have been dry since May 1999. Due to safety concerns <br />because of their proximity to the highwall, both these wells were <br />abandoned in August 2003. A replacement Wadge overburden well was <br />drilled in September 2004. <br />- Wadge Coal. The five current Wadge coal wells monitored exhibit the <br />same typical seasonal variations as the previous aquifers discussed. Due <br />to low aquifer transmissivities (range 0.07 to 0.36 ft2/day), water <br />sampling may mask normal water level fluctuations. Wells WW14 and 17 <br />have exhibited an increase in water levels since 1999, with both <br />displaying their highest water levels ever this year. Well WW18 has <br />displayed a decrease in water levels since 1998. Water levels observed <br />this year at wells WW16 and 18 were the lowest on record. We11 WW4 has <br />been dry since May 2002. Due to safety concerns because of its proximity <br />to the highwall, WW4 was abandoned in August 2003. A replacement Wadge <br />coal well was drilled in September 2004. <br />- Sage Creek Overburden. Well WSOV24 monitored this stratum in the <br />south area. Monitoring began in September 2001. This well failed due to <br />a landslide that occurred in April 2003. A replacement well was drilled <br />in September 2004. <br />- Sage Creek Coal. We11 WSC24 monitored this seam in the south area. <br />Monitoring began in September 2001. This well failed due to a landslide <br />that occurred in April 2003.
