8
3.1.4 Quality Control Samples
Field and Rinse Blank. The field blank and rinse blank again used second-stage DI water
from the BMRI laboratory. Total cyanide, WAD cyanide, copper, iron and zinc
concentrations were all below detection in both the field and rinse blanks. Al]
concentrations measured were below detection in the field blank, but the rinse blank had
detectable concentrations of calcium and sodium. The detection limit for calcium in May
was 10 times higher than in April (1 vs. 0.1 mg/I).
3.2 QUALTPY CONTROL ANALYSES AND RESULTS
The Quality Control Report is included as Appendix D of this summary report. In some
cases Core Laboratories used samples from the fourth third-party monitoring trip to perform
spike and duplicate QA/QC analyses. The identity of the sample (e.g., M-9) is noted in
Appendix D next to the analysis I.D. All spike and duplicate analyses involving samples
from the fourth third-party monitoring met the required quality control criteria in TR-006.
The following samples from the fourth third-party monitoring trip were used for cyanide
QA/QC spike analyses: M-9 (WAD cyanide); M-12 (total cyanide); M-13 (WAD cyanide);
M-13 duplicate (total cyanide). The following samples were used for cyanide QA/QC
duplicate analyses: M-9 (WAD cyanide); RS-5 (total cyanide); upper tailings impoundment
(total cyanide), and M-12 (WAD cyanide). All samples were unfiltered.
Only one sample, the upper tailings impoundment sample, had any detectable cyanide and
only duplicate, not spike, analyses were performed on the sample. For the next third-party
monitoring trip, total and WAD cyanide spike recovery analyses should be performed on >
unfiltered process point samples to evaluate possible analytical interferences with the cyanide
methods as performed on critical samples from the site.
33 LABORATORY TURNAROUND TIME
Core Laboratories received the samples on May 29, 1993. The date of the Analytical
Report from Core Laboratories was June 24, 1993, which is a turnaround time of slightly
under one month.
RCG/Hagler, Badly, Inc
