Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
Annual Report
9 Mazch 2004
Camp Bird Colorado, Inc.
Permit No. M-1982-090
Due to a oversite on the part of Camp Bird Colorado, Inc. as well as a shortage of personnel, this
report is being filed late.
The Camp Bird Mine has not been operated since late 1989. Currently, the property is
undergoing reclamation, pursuant to the referenced permit.
Site Reclamation activities did not take place during 2003, due to Camp Bird's preoccupation
with trying to sell the property. Negotiations took place during 2003 (continuing into 2004)
which may have required amending the reclamation plans due to a possible change in ownership
of the property, and plans for the site by new owners.
Site conditions at the Camp Bird Mine were substantially stabilized by the Phase I reclamation
activity which took place in 1999. During that 1999 season, the two primary tailing
impoundments situated north of Canyon Creek were recontoured for surface drainage and
covered with a nominal 4-inch colluvium growth medium. Since then, natural vegetation has
established over most of this surface, and the former wind-blown tailing dispersion problem has
been substantially alleviated. A seeding program over these tailings azeas was implemented
during October, 2000. Additional vegetation was created over these tailings areas as a result of
this seeding program, fiu-ther alleviating wind erosion. Inspections during 2003 show that the
vegetation growth on the reclaimed azeas appears to continue to establish itself and cover the
tailing areas.
During this yeaz, additional routine site maintenance had been carried out with respect to weed
control, as well as maintenance on the stormwater drainage conveyances.
Additional information relating to the Camp Bird property is contained in the Phase II Site
Reclamation Plan, for which two technical revisions were filed in 2000. Technical Revision No.
2 (filed Apri128, 2000), and Technical Revision No. 3 (filed June 28, 2000), have both received
approval from the MLRD. The Technical Revisions also contain detailed maps relating to the
property.
