. SITE RECLAMATION ACTIVITY
APRIL 2006 TO MARCH 2007
Reclamation activity during the 2006 reporting year (April 2006 to
March 2007) consisted of reclamation of the settling ponds at the
American Tunnel sit.
In the following sections of this report, environmental activity
during the 2006 reporting year and planned environmental activity
for the 2007 reporting year is discussed on a site by site basis. A
summary of acreage permitted, disturbed, and undergoing reclamation
is presented in Table A (page 2).
AMERICAN TUNNEL PORTAL AREA - Plate No. 1
During the 2006 reporting year, no additional acreage was disturbed
and approximately 3.7 acres were contoured and reclaimed. With
completion of this work, all of the reclamation work in the
reclamation plan has been completed.
Reclamation and environmental activity during 2006 consisted of;
•
1) removal of the office/warehouse building and snowshed
structure located on the top level of the facility. The
office/warehouse building had collapsed from excess snow
load during the winter. The contents were salvaged and/or
disposed of by shipping to an approved landfill. The
building steel was shipped to a steel recycling company.
2) concrete foundation removal. The concrete foundations were
broken up and moved to the cut-bank toe for burial when the
steep slope was reduced with fill from the site.
3) cribbing removal. Cribbing material was excavated and hauled
to Tailings Pond #4 for burial in the cells opened in 2005.
4) portal closure. A 24" ABS drainage pipe was placed in the
portal to maintain drainage and the portal was closed with
fill material to establish a reclaimed slope.
5) slope contouring. Clean soil was salvaged as the slope was
contoured with a predominant 2.5:1 slope Cross-cut material
encountered was consolidated in one area and before capping
with 18"-24" of topsoil/overburden, fly-ash was mixed into the
top layer to amend pH and reduce permeability. No significant
quantity of mine waste that was not cross-cut material was
found. The majority of this type of material must have been on
the waste dump which was reclaimed earlier by Sunnyside.
6) planting vegetation. The contoured areas were seeded with the
• "Mountain Mix".
