Four Surface Water Discharge Points. Si[e 303 (Pond C), Site 304 (Pond D),
Site 305 (Pond E) and Si[e 321 (Pond F) experienced discharge during the spring of 1993.
Sampling was performed weekly and all samples collected were analyzed for the constituents
required by CDPS Permit No. COG-850021 and the approved Monitoring Schedule. Table 8,
1993 Surface Water Statistics -Sediment Ponds, presents a summary of the data. The field data
' collected are presented in Exhibit A, 1993 Field Data and the resuhs of the laboratory are
presented in Exhibit F, 1993 Mine Area Surface Water Quality Analyses.
During April and May 1993, discharge points 303 and 304 experienced some levels of TSS and
' Iron concentrations that exceed CDPS Permit No. COG-850021 limits. Kerr Coal Company
has continued to investigate the situation and believes that the TSS problem is a direct response
to runoff and the soil gradation existing in the general area of the mine. Correspondence
' between Kerr and the Colorado Department of Heahh is attached in Exhibit G, CDPS Permit
No: COG-850021 Correspondence.
' Surface Water Monitoring Stations 300, 306, and 327 experienced flow from spring runoff as
represen[ed on Table 9, 1993 Surface Water Statistics - Selecced Surface Stations. Station 314 did
not exhibit any flow during the year. The surface water sites were sampled on a weekly basis
' from March through June and monthly thereafcer. The field data collected are presented in
Exhibi[ A, 1993 Field Da[a and the results of the laboratory area presented in Exhibit F, 1993
Mine Area Surface Water Quality Analyses.
' Seasonal variations in flow and water chemistry for stations 300, 306 and 327 are illustrated in
graphs of flow, pH TSS and TDS and are presented in Exhibit H, 1993 Mine Area Surface
' Water Hydrographs. Please note on the graphs, that flow data points shown as zero represent
either no (low or a trace of flow. For quality parameters, zero indicated that the value was
below laborawry de[ection limits. Please refer to the [ables for actual values.
t
1

' TrrrrMarnx/ACZ Lrr. "` P.O. Bo.r 774018 " Srr~mhnar Sprsngs, Colnn~do N0477 (.d01J 8796?60
