EASTSIDE COAL COMPANY, INC.
Subsidence Report
October 1990
Extraction Limits
The mine map of the Eastside Mine dated 5th of October 1990 shows the
extent of extraction of coal from underground. A conservative angle
of draw of 25 includes Subsidence Point 2 in the area of possible influence
from subsidence.
Observed Subsidence
Points 1, 2, & 8 were surveyed on August 31, 1990.
The .results from Monument i indicate the point subsided 0.179 feet during
the last six months. Since the point was originally set, the total vertical
movement of Monument 1 was 0.299 feet. The resurvey of Monument 1 on
10-18-90 to confirm the accuracy of the 8-90 survey indicates that some
lowering of the surface around Monument 1 has occurred.
The results from Monument 2 indicate the point is higher during the winter
months and lower in the summer months. This could be caused by frost
heave during the winter months. The changes noted for Monument 2 are now
related to seasonal changes and survey errors.
Monument 8 results indicate the point may be unstable. The vertical
measurements vary from +0.34 to -0.478 feet from the original survey.
Monument 8 is still outside of the angle of draw of 25 As a result
no subsidence should be observable at this point.
Subsidence is occurring at Monument 1 due to the close proximity of the
portal area. Some movement has been noted in the underground workings
directly below Monument 1.
No subsidence at other areas is anticipated until pillar recovery
commences and caving begins.
No structures or renewable resources have been effected by subsidence of
the Eastside Mine.
