• WATER BALANCE AND CONSUMPTIVE USE
Water consumptively used by the mine is estimated at 36.4 AC-FT during the reporting period. The
components of consumptive use are detailed on a monthly basis and shown on Table 7. In addition, the
locations of water use at the mine are presented in schematic format on Figure 2. Other supporting
information wncerniog consumptive use at the coal preparation plant and all mine site sediment and storage
ponds are summarized and shown on Tables 5 and 6, respectively.
The water balance within the mine considers the estimated quantity of input and output water in the
water handling system end consumptive use within the operation. Water pumped into the system from the
North Dewatering Well and the Corley Mine Well (refer to Table 2A) totalled 36.5 AC-FT for the reporting
period. The estimated consumptive use during the corresponding period was 36.4 AC-Ft, and water
discharged to the stream system was approximately 3.9 AC-Ft. These estimates of input, consumptive use,
and discharge water quantities indicate a reasonable water balance evaluation of the Southfield Mine.
Southfield's current water monitoring program provides an adequate method for estimating consumptive
water use and water balance within the mine.

\J
