• Introduction
The information assembled in this 1990 Annual Hydrologic Report (AHR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established et Peabody Coal Company's Nucla Mine
(Permit No. C-81-008). In addition, hydrologic baseline data collected from monitoring
sites established at Peabody's proposed Nucla East mining area are presented. SurfacE
water information assembled include instantaneous and mean daily discharge measurements,
NPDES discharge monitoring reports, end water quality analysis results. Ground water
information include monthly water level measurements end water quality analysis results.
Reported surface and ground water information collected at monitoring sites associated
with Peabody's Nucla Mine end the Nucla East area encompesc the 1990 water year (October
1, 1989 through September 30, 1990). Locations of monitoring sites discussed in this
report can be found by referring to Exhibit 1, Hydrology Monitoring Site Location Map,
submitted as part of the 1988 AHR for the Nucla Mine.
in February of 1990, Peabody received approval for a technical revision to the Nucla Mine
Permit (C-81-008 TR-03, correspondence from Carl Mount, February 27, 1990). The rev(sion
• included a reduction in hydrologic monitoring during temporary cessation for the Nucla
Nine and Nucla Eest mining area. The Nucla Permit Application Package (PAP) was revised
accordingly in February, 1990 to include the hydrologie monitoring program for the Nucla
Mine during temporary cessation (see Appendix 15.4, Teb 15, Nucla PAP). The following
sections present discussion about monitoring activities conducted during the 1990 water
year as part of both the approved operational hydrologic monitoring program (through
January, 1990), end the approved hydrologic monitoring program during temporary cessation
(February through September, 1990).
Precipitation Date
Precipitation data for the environs of the Nucle Nine and proposed Nucla East mining area
from January 1980 through September 1990 ere presented in Table 1. Included ere data for
stations at Norwood, Ureven, and et Nucla Eest (refer to Tab B, revised Nucla PAP). The
Nucle East station consists of one Belfort Model 5-780 universal recording rein gauge,
equipped with a 32-day electric drive chart recorder, and a 12-inch capacity weighing
bucket. This gauge has been in reliable operation since August 26, 7987.
•
1
