s
Mined Land Reclamation Board
September 21, 1979
Re: MLR File 1F77-129

2
(4) In Phase X 5.73+ acres (see plat attached) were disced, fertilized and
seeded on November 20, 21 and 22, 1978. In November Whitewater purchased
25 lbs. Fourwing saltbush, 50 lbs. each of Fairway wheatgrass and Paloma
Indian Ricegrass, 100 lbs. Jose Tall wheatgrass and 300 lbs. oats. The
prescribed amounts (see reclamation plan) of seed were seeded along with
the addition of oats to make the seeds flow better.
(5) Approximately 200 lbs. of 20-15-5 blend fertilizer was spread over the
acreage after seeding in Phase X.
(6) Environment, Inc. and their associate, Mr. Mark Heffner, visited the
Phase X site in August of 1979. Following is their evaluation and future
action with regard to revegetation.
Whitewater 500 Pit
On November 20, 21 and 22, 1978, 5.73 acres in Stage X were
disced, fertilized and seeded.
"Examination of the Phase X area in August 1979 revealed the
success was scattered and ranged from excellent to poor. It
appears that the diversity in success was apparently due to
excessive weed growth and possible local problems with soil
chemistry. The area is being examined further and a plan
developed to institute remedial action in correcting the
problems. The results of the first year of the remedial plan
will be reported in the annual report for next year. At this
time it is not anticipated the problems encountered will delay
completion of reclamation as anticipated in the original plan.
Stage X appears to be an area where techniques and procedures
for reclaiming the rest of the permit area can be perfected
thereby making reclamation of the remainder of the mine area
much more direct."
(7) Mining will continue in Stage I and Stage A as called for in the approved
application. Approximately 4.19+ acres in Stage I and 1.00+ acres in
Stage A will be disturbed in the next year. Possibly Stage II will be
started in the coming year. This is another subject of the above-mentioned
technical revision. For acreage see attached plat.
(8) The Annual Report date is September 22. The effective date of all
information herein is September 1, 1978.
