CASTLE CONCRETE COMPANY'S
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
1988-89 ANNUAL REPORT FOR: SAND PIT
PERMIT NUMBER: M-77-213
DATE OF INSPECTION FOR DATA IN REPORT: MAY 1989.
SUMMARY•
Because of the severely depressed aggregate market there
was little activity which occurred at this operation. A
small amount of sand was extracted from about 3.5 acres
within the pit. Very little activity occurred in
reclamation. The support berm was continued with
construction, more backfilling done, and plans initiated
to correct the drainage problems from adjacent land into
the pit area. These plans are not to be implemented by
Castle Concrete and are not part of the mining and
reclamation plans, but are to be implemented by adjacent
land owners to mitigate the effects of their drainage
systems on the operation.
RULE 2.41(1): LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECTED DURING THAT YEAR.
Because of the severely depressed aggregate market currently
affecting the Colorado Springs area, very little additional land was
affected this year ae compared to last year. Material was extracted
from about 2.5 acres of land.
A small amount of sand was removed from the southwest and west
sides of the operation. These areas are shown on the attached map.
Most of this extraction occurred from the dike area separating this
operation from the Daniels Sand Pit #2 to the south. By mutual
agreement with Daniels Sand, some material was removed from the south
aide and top of the dike by Daniels Sand to supplement their production.
The reason for this joint mining of the dike area is an attempt to
remove the dike area as quickly as possible so the land contained in
this permit and in the Daniels Sand permit can be merged and made
available for development as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the
depressed market has severely hampered this effort to remove the dike.
A cut was completed through the dike in this permit year.
Therefore the actual process of merging this operation with the Daniels
Sand Pit #2 has begun.
Page 1 of 3 1989 SAND PIT ANNUAL REPORT
