Box 3
Alamosa, CO 81101
Dear Mr. Bamer:
i ani sending you utis fetter iri reference to the weed control plan that you inquired about for your
peat pit.
The best control option would be to mow the plants when they reach bud stage 2-3 times during
the summer and then treat in the fall before the first freeze with a suitable chemical. This same
scenario could be repeated the following summer and fall to ensure good control. Grass should
then be planted the following spring to compete with the whitetop. If some of the plants are still
alive at this point, they could be treated with a suitable herbicide that will not affect the grass.
Following this recommendation it should be easy for you to get control of the whitetop and
replace it with grass, especially if it is in a relatively small area.
Please see the attached seeding recommendation for a suitable grass seed mix. It is based off of
a 1 acre seeding, however if you need to cover a large area you can just multiply the pounds by
the approximate acreage to get the required amount. Be sure to request Pure Live Seed(PLS)
when ordering the seed.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
/IC.~y~i~ U
V
Ronald Riggenbach
Acting District Conservationist
Alamos Field Office
The Natural Resources Conservation Service provides leadership in a partnership effort to help people
conserve, maintain, and improve our natural resources and environment.
An Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
