•
Schmid Surveys
• iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
999
January 6, 1990
To: National King Coal, Inc.
Fe: Quarterly Subsidence Monitoring
Three additional monitoring points, (A, B, 6 C), were established in August
1989. Point A was located above the urunined area between section # 2 east and
section # 3 east. Point B is located about 125 feet south of point A and point C is
about 225 feet south of point A. Both B and C are located over the "pillared" part
of section #3 east.
On October 12, scone surface cracking was observed in the area around point B.
These cracks were generally east-west and approximately 1/2" wide. ey November 2,
sane of the cracks were 2" wide and extended scene 175 feet east and 325 feet west
free points B & C. By December 20, there was evidence that surface cracking in the
area was beginning to "heal", and I found no evidence of new cracks or widening of
the existing ones.
Subsidence survey checks were made on October 12, November 2, November 20, and
December 20. On each of these occasions point A did not move (in relation to
subsidence points S-1, S-2, S-3, and S-4); however, the following movement on the
other monuments was detected:
P.O. Box 2017 • Durango, Colorado 81302 • (303) 259-3248
