2.0 SUMMARY OF HYDROLOGY MONITORING DATA The Deserado Mine hydrology monitoring program was initiated during the first quarter of 1981 and succeeds the baseline hydrologic monitoring and inventory program that was initiated in ' 1978. The purpose of this section of this report is to: • Describe the Deserado Mine hydrology monitoring program • Summarize the hydrology monitoring data collected from October 1, 1997 to ' September 30, 1998 • Compare the hydrology data collected during this reporting period with the data from ' the baseline hydrology inventory 2.1 Description of the Deserado Mine Hydrologic Monitoring Program An ongoing hydrologic monitoring program for the Deserado Mine was initiated during the first quarter of 1981. This program was designed based on the results of the hydrologic baseline studies which were initiated in 1978. The program was implemented to fulfill the regulatory ' requirements under the Federal Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) and the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. ' 2.1.1 Surface Water Monitoring Program ' The surface water monitoring program at the Deserado Mine has been discontinued as of August 11, 1997 pursuant to the approval of a technical revision application (TR47). However, prior to the discontinuation of the surface water monitoring program, only seven (7) surface monitoring stations were required to be monitored: SW1-1, SW6-1, SW11-1, SW23-1, SW24-1, SW31-1 and SW33-1. The original surface water monitoring program consisted of monitoring surface water at the following nine (9) stations: SW1-1 (crest gage for flood events) Discontinued as of 8!11/97 SW11-1 (crest gage for flood events) Discontinued as of 8/11/97 SW12-1 (White River-grab sample) Sampling discontinued due to inundation by Kenney Reservoir SW11-2 (White River-grab sample) Sampling discontinued due to inundation by ' SW6-1 (Stock pond~rab sample) 1 Kenney Reservoir Discontinued as of 8/11/97 z
