Details of our approach arc provided for
each task.
Task 1 - Revegetation
Success Criteria
Establishment
Thu objective of this task is to establish success
criteria for subseQtlcrittcst_pLo vn ai1Qn. Criteria
will be determined for vegetalivc cover, hcrbac:cous
production, woody plan cnsuy, and species
diversity. Ttlese criteria will be consistent with
CMLRD regulation J.15.3 and arc d~seribcd in
detail in the following see110n5.
~~ Na. hiv on vrgeranan
Pnunr Tom! Yrj. Calvr - ,. (1)
mm( wm6cr of poiw
Two rcfercncc plots were established by WFU
during tilt spring and summer of 1990. One plot
has a northern exposure and one has a Southern
CxpOSUrC.
Vegetative Cover
Vegetative cover sampling will be accomplished
using 0-ft long transccts and a lU-point pin
frame. The pin frame will be systema[ically lopted
at five points along the transcct. Consequently,
cadt transcct Kill consist of 50 sample points. The
wtal of 5 to 10 transccts is anticipated to be
needed. Howcvcr, the actual numh~r of transect5
conductcJ will be determined by sample adcquary
calculations (described below).
Ground cover will be determined a[ each of the
~0 sample points on a ttansect. Cover will be
classified as vegetation, litter, or rock. I~ck of
cover will be classified as bare soil. Vegetation will
also be classifed by species. Sampling data vrill be
used to eestimate totaTiZgeriftive cover according to
cqualion 1.
Due to the combination of plot size (0.5 acre) and
transcet length. a completely randomized sampling
Strategy would not be effective. Assuming each side
of the rcfercncc putts is a( least t(K) p long, we
propose to randomly SCICCI t14'O UppOSIIC RIdCS Of
the plot for use as baselines. Transccts will be
randomly established perpendicular to these
baselines. Minimum spacing between all transccts
will be 2 m to avoid samplca+rca o~•crlap.
Herbaceous Production
w
_L,~
HcrbacCOUS production will be estimated for each '~, -`
rcfercncc plot 4vith the han'c>t method. A l m' ••'
quadrat will he establisheU midway along each
vegetative crn•cr transcct. All vcgctalion within
each quadrat will be clipped as close to ground
~:
Icvcl as practical and bagged by lift form. Parts of „r
~~s~
plants rooted within the quadrat but not occupying r
;1>'O
the three dimensional volume of the quadrat ,1, ;
,/
(height x width x length) will not be harvested. '''
Howcvcr, plants not rooted within the quadrat but , _ ` . '
which occupy space within the rolume will be _ -
hanestcd. Upon completion of field efforts, all
samples will be air dried and weighed.
A sample size of ten quadrats is anticipated for
each rcfercncc plot. However, the actual number of
transccts conducted will be determined by sample
adequacy calculations (described below). If fewer
than ten crn•er transect5 are conducted, quadrats
unassncimed With a cover transcct will he randomly
lowtcd within the pint using a random numhCrs
table.
Woody Plant Density

i.:^~
'~"j~~ ,
r'
:., ..--
_ -
_ L4 L
Woody plant density will be estimated for each
reference plot with belt transccts. Each transcct
will be 2 m wide by 100 ft lang. One belt transcct
will be located along each cover transcct. Within
