File d C-047-81
Dear Robert
• III Illllllllllll III
blue ribbon coal company
p. n. box 58
delta, Colorado 81416
1303) 874-7561

~e!n~rn 1. n.n!n fiF.CI.~MATION
I.; CI r;:'t!! q' F':'"'~ ~li P?SCIIfCCS
In response to problem ik047-83-15, treatment of the Mine bench, Blue Ribbon
Coal Co. is taking the stand that the bench is now stable enough eo ea not
to present a major danger to personnel, property or the environment. To
achieve the stabilitq needed for a large scale use as a mine bench more
work than !e leasable would be needed. We therefore propose to leave the
unstable portion of the bench as is except to restrict the use of it more
than in the past.
We have taken care of three areas that we feel may have contributed to the
problem. The sewer line formerly was routed from the belt portal west [o
within 20 feet of the edge then follwed the edge of the bencfi to the comb-
ination water-sewer-drain berm ofE of the hill. We feel that this line
was broken in initial movement oE'the bench and then contributed water to
saturate the elide area. This sewer line has been rerouted~a stable portion
of the bench as defined by Rocky Mountain Geotec. In digging around the
bench en old leach field was located between the fan portal and the belt
portal. This old leach field ie now drained by a French drain which drains
into the dram line down the utility berm. Upon draining the leach field
the standing water under the tan drained. The third improvement in the
bench drainage was to continue the solid mine discharge line scrota the bench
and part way down the utility berm.
The screen has been repositioned on the bench to the east of the previous
location. According to the Yocky Mountain Geotec a drilling the screen is
on a portion of the cut bench. The dropped area hat been partially re-
graded to allow minor useage.
iQf there are any further questions you may be able to catch me at 856-6402
or 929-5911. We are in the process of answering the recent questions.on
the Pindings document stipulations. Our response should be !n by the end
of August.
Yo`~ruly, /~/J ~6.
Larry Resclike, P.E.
Mine Engineer
cc- B. Tate
/~.
• ~• ~~ ~ .
