Upon further review of the graphs and data
provided in Minrec's response, the Division believes additional sampling of Ward
Creek and the springs is unnecessary at this time. However, if the conductivity
trend continues to move upward, additional sampling may be required.
The Division modifies our previous decision to require additional monitoring
because we agree that the historic average between upstream and downstream sites
of 159 umhos/cm ie higher than the 1992 and 1993 increase of 150 umhos/cm, and
that the conductivity in lower Ward Creek during September is following historic
trends.
However, the Division requests that Minrec sample and analyze for Total Dissolved
Solids (TDS) and the main anions and cations in Ward Creek. This information
would allow comparison of current conditions to conditions predicted in the
Probable Hydrologic Conseguencea (PHC) in regards to salinity and TDS. In
addition, the Division would recommend sampling the wells completed in the E seam
to determine at what level the workings have been flooded ae was predicted in the
1987 AHR. These two items were previously mentioned in the December 13, 1993
Letter from the Division.
Please respond to the two requests above by April 1, 1994. Please call if you
have any questions.
ly,
Christine E. J,oh~ton
Environmental Pr tection Specialist
CEJ/034RNR(2)
