1994 Ar~riual Report Narrative
The Cualdale Gypsum hiine is currcntlY in Temporary Cessation
Static (1990). Affected land includes 100 acres Uf active
mining zone, highwalls, roadways, reclaimed areas,
maintenance yard and crusher site. Approximate 600 of
Affected Land is under reclamation o'. varying progression.
1993 reclamation included the seeding and mulching o'f
thirteen acres in the North Dump Area. Forty tons of mulch
were applied immediately after seeding- This work is a
coritir~uance of grass establishment efforts on overburdern
dumps graded and seeded in 1990.
1994 reclamation work will be expanded tU not only continue
grass establishment work but also 'for necessary maintenance
of 40 acres of affected land which is in advanced staged of
reclamation. Soil sampling will be performed throughout the
site tU develop longer torn fertilizer requirements. Badly
needed maintenance on deer protection devices will be
performed. Another tan acres of grassland will bU seeded and
mulched in areas marked in red on the attached map- Affected
Land boundaries that are riot obvious vegetative or
disturbance will be identified by Yellow field markers.
Although Domtar's present perspective is one of teruporary
cessation static, options in the future may include the
selling of the equipment and dismantling of the Florenc::
P1anC. Domtar would like to explore the costing of C1USUre
criteria to better understand the lung range responsibilities
of disturbance on the scale of the Cualdale Pit. I will be
working on details of this analysis this surnrner and loot:
forward to your involvement. At your convenience, please
call me to schedule a site visit with geotechnical support if
possible. I will be on site throughout the summer months.
~~!i-~: .
KS Klco
POBUx 338
CUtUpaxi, CO BlL[3
719-94L-4178
