Most users of the irrigation water is used for livestock, <br />irrigation and industry. These uses should not be significantly <br />affected by the predicted water quality change. <br />Impacts Likely to Occur <br />1. Water in the flooded workings is likely to acquire a greater <br />salinity and a more sodic character and may discharge to the <br />glacial-alluvial aquifer at the coal subcrops of Ward Creek and <br />into the creek itself and result in a degradation in water quality. <br />A. A buffer zone of 200 feet will be maintained between mine <br />workings and the subcrops. <br />B. The applicant's limited coal extraction method is designed <br />to prevent significant subsidence. <br />2. A spoil aquifer will develop in the underground waste disposal <br />area and the backfilled areas of the reclaimed topography. The <br />waste disposal area is underlain by bedrock and will not be in <br />direct contact with the glacial-alluvial material. <br />
