(BMRI) - San Luis <br />DMG Permit No. M-88-112 <br />Tailings Area Construction Activities <br />Dear Mr. Oehler: <br />On December 12, 1993, the Phase II, Raise I tailings <br />facility construction project was completed. <br />As specified in the Division's October 4, 1993 letter. the <br />tailings settlement :~a-:kers within the main embankmt-~ have <br />been surveyed daily during construction, and daily surveys <br />have continued through December 16 at which time the survey <br />results showed no movement (within the accepted surveying <br />error) for three consecutive days. Daily surveying of the <br />markers has ended; weekly surveying of the markers will <br />continue until no movement (within surveying error) is <br />verified for four consecutive weeks. Settlement marker <br />information is enclosed. Settlement marker #5 was destroyed <br />on December 12 during final sloping activities on the <br />upstream face. Settlement marker ,>k9 was partially bent and <br />repaired on December 12 and continues to be surveyed. <br />On December 6, the standpipe piezometers (nos. 6-10) along <br />the Phase I, 8590' crest were checked with a water level <br />probe and found to be dry. <br />BMRI has not received inspection reports from the Division's <br />site visits on October 7 and October 28. BMRI requests that <br />these reports be immediately issued so that any concerns <br />noted by the Division can be quickly resolved. once again, <br />as a means of m<,intaining effective and efficient lines of <br />communica~~! c:t:, we re. r•ac•at that inspection reports b1= <br />completed and issued while the Division is on-site. <br />Sincerely, <br />~or.,oa S~- <br />Alana L.
