Groundwater 1985
Table 5 shows the results of groundwater sampling during 1993; as well as, a comparison to the
baseline yeaz of 1981. Results of quality sampling aze consistent with the results from previous yeazs
and identify a potential problem with the required monitoring locations. Ground water is being
sampled at SW-1 above the mines and GW-4 between McClane and Munger Canyons. GW-4 is in
close proximity to a hay field that is irrigated during dry periods., As suggested in previous reports,
the ground water at this location appeazs to be effected by the irrigation practices in the area. GVC is.:
in the process of converting to sampling GW-3 rather than G W-4. GW-3 is located adjacent to the _:
road south of GW-4 and should be outside of the influence of the irrigation of the hay field. Refer to
Figure 4.2-2 of the McCLuie Canyon Permit. GVC has been in contact with DMG to obtain approval '
for this substitution. ~ ~
PROBABLE HYDROLOGIC CONSEQUENCES
The mines will have negligible effect upon the hydrologic regime of East Salt Creek. The azea
disturbed is small, sedimentation and surface water systems have functioned well for over ten yeazs.
Most storm events that have exceeded the design criteria required by CMLR have not been a problem
for the system to handle. The effect that the mine has on the groundwater hydrology of East Salt
Creek has been decreased further since water is now being imported to the mine and no further
dewateriag will take place until water in 001 North Section backs up to the seals and is drained to the
water sump. This water will then be used in the mining process.
If there are questions or if I can be of further assistance please contact me.
Sincerely,
n
~~~~
John M.
