The Mine ceased
production December 31, 1995. During 1996, the mine was sealed, surface facilities removed, and
disturbed areas backfilled and graded; and some areas seeded.
(n 1997 a borrow azea was permitted (TR-43) to obtain sufficient material to meet the depth of cover
requirement fotthe Golden Eagle refuse disposal area (RDA). In May 1997, approximately one and one-
half to two feet of topsoil was stripped from the borrow area located southwest of the mine facilities. This
material was transported to and spread on the RDA. Test pits were excavated to determine the amount of
additional soil material ^ecessary to meet the requirements of three feet of subsoil and one foot of topsoil .
After the RDA area had been graded and contoured, additional random test piss were dug to ensure proper
cover. The area was then seeded with the rangeland seed mix and mulch at two tons of straw per acre.
Fertilizer was then broadcast at the rate of 80 Ib. per acre of P205 and 60 Ib. per acre of nitrogen. The
borrow area was ripped on contour, and seeded, mulched and fertilizer applied.
Several small areas required minor regrading and erosion control in 1997: The eastwardly flowing
diversion ditch at the RDA, and the portal fill area.
A map detailing the 1996-97 reclamation areas, topsoil distribution, and seeding will be submitted under
separate cover. This map is to be used in reference with table ARR-1997-lalso to be submitted.
Please call me if you have any questions or require additional information.
Si ~ Y,
~14~-tr--~--
Ronald G.
