i
1981CY ~ = 0.098 efe •
1980CY = 0.990 c£s "
Flow values at this site are affected by the pumDiag of water £rom this Dond for
the truck wash eyatem and for water trucks (duet control). Pumping for the
truck wash system .began on September 1B, 1984. Aeviem of the TDS plot indicates
an increasing trend.
Grassy Creek Drainage. Four monitoring sites lie within the Grassy Creek
drainage: Site 1, located uDatream oa Grassy Creek; NPDE9 Discharge Point 003,
also known as the Shop Reservoir or the Northwest Impoundment, located just
worth of the mine shop area; Site 2, located approximately 0.1 mile downstream
of where NPDE9 003 discharges into Graeey Creek; sad 91te 3, which monitors
discharges from Dre-SMCRA mining areas and is located adjeceat to site 2.
- Surface Water Site SW-52-1 (SSG1). This site monitors Graeey Creek upstream
of mining by the Seneca II Miae. Review of the TDS plot indicates n slightly
iacreasiag tread.
- NPDES Discharge Point 003 (NPDE53). Hydrograyhs presented in Appendix D show
that flow has increased at this site since 8aptember 18, 1984, whew operation of
the truck wash eysiem began. water ie siphoned from the Wedge Impoundment
(NPDES 002) into a hol8inq pond. Dverflow from the holding Doad ie diverted
into the ehoD diteb, which flows into NPDES 003. Water ie Dumped from the
holding Dond to the wash rack, drains into a eettliag Doad, and then into the
same ehoD ditch. ~Thie operation has increased the flaw at NPDE9 003 while
decreasing the £low at NPDES 002. Two other events that affected the long-term
hydrograph include the diversion away from NPDE9 003 of runoff from en inactive
fly ash pit (operated by the Rayden station Dower ylaat) is October, 1980; sad
the diversion away from NPDES 003 of runoff contained is the Northwest Diversion
Ditch (wee the Seneca II Permit ADplicatioa, 8xhibit 7-7, Surface Water
Hydrology Map and oleo the 1982 Seneca II AHR) in April, 1952. Finally,
discharge volumes at the 003 site have been affected by the reduction in
diameter of the discharge culvert (36 inches to 6 inches) which occurred oa July
19, 1988. No comparison of this years' flows to prior yearn ie presented since •
16
