Flows in Hubbard Creek were
down and conauctivities were elevated from average. Pond 001 discharged only
once in March. Neither of the other two ponds discharged.
Two new piezometers were installed in October in the area regraded following
the 1989 slide. These piezometers were installed adjacent to one another, and
one is perforated between 2' and 12 ' while the other is perforated between
8' and 28.2' deep. Monitoring was performed monthly in November and
December. Future monitoring may help in identifying the hydrologic
relationship between the cover and the coal waste. The 1989 Annual Hydrology
Report included completion diagrams for these piezometers.
IJater levels in the north and south end of the central bench, P1 and P3
respectively, continue to show seasonal fluctuations in water levels, with
substantially higher levels in the spring of each year. The monitoring Mined
Lana Reclamation Division performed during the April 25, 1990 inspection
showed water levels in P1 lower than those observed in 1989, but similar to
those seen in 1988 when that portion of the bench slid.
Field parameters are measured on the underdrains on a quarterly basis. There
has been no replication of the acidic pHs seen in the southern drain in 1987.
The water is saline (2600-4900 umhos/cm) and moderately alkaline.
