Long
Urvaion Director
I have consulted with our resident expert, Mr. Jim Pendelton
regarding our discussion and concern on the cessation of monitoring
at the Roadside mine operation.
I conclude the following:
The past monitoring has been sufficient over the old workings
area and Ute•Waterline. These two monitoring programs were dropped
in TR03 and TR08 respectively. Further monitoring proceede on the
south mains until 1985. Temporary cessation status discontinued
monitoring of the monuments. Last subsidence report received was
in December of 1985. TC status lasted until April 30, 1989. A
letter from Mike Savage to Larry Reschke (see attached) re-
activated "any monitoring" previously approved to be terminated due
to the TC status.
Mr. Pendelton and myself conclude that further monitoring of the
current A,C and L lines is unnecessary due to the direction of
mining to the south. Undermining the old workings and any
structures has already been monitored and recorded sufficiently for
the area. The next five year permit term does not undermine any
drainage or surface structure to my knowledge, therefore, since the
geology and overburden thickness remain essentially the same, as
does the coal seam thickness, additional placement of monitors is
unnecessary.
I would request, however t)iat the mine operator perform the
following tasks, which can be written into the findings as a
stipulation if necessary.
