Penaittee Name: wood Brick and Ti/e Co. • Page 2
Permit No: M-79-045
Operation Name: Church Pit
Anniversary Iliate: 02 / 28 / 96
(1) Clap - No new area was disturbed this year in the mine. We
continued to mine deeper on the land previously disturbed,
including the area stripped of gravel (yellow). Approxi-
mately 14.77 acres is disturbed by the clay operation in
Stages O, I and II. This included the old clay mined area
(aqua) on the south and the Clay Plant site (pink). The
clay face was advanced to the north into the area mined by
the gravel operation again this year.
Gravel - Jefferson County Road and Bridge Dept. mined the
gravel under a lease with the mineral right owners. Most of
the gravel mining was completed in Stages I & II ahead of
the clay operation this year, basically over the clay beds
(bluej. This is crone in accordance with the approved plan
and serves to strip the clay vein of material that we con-
sider overburden. Once that was completed mining resumed in
Stage A as noted last year (orange). The current gravel
operation has disturbed 13.63 acres ± in the mine. Now that
the area over the clay seam is nearly complete the process-
ing plant site was moved to Stage A.
(2) No reclamation was required this year. None will be re-
quired until mining for both materials is completed in any
given stage. We began to remove part of prelaw overburden
pile on the southwest side of the facility this year. In
addition, we began to fill the north slope of the old clay
pit to establish the slope into the excavation area. The
area in Stage B that was partially mined has been refilled
with pit run material and will be seeded with a temporary
cover until mining progresses into that area. A 350-foot
section of sloping is complete on the north end of Stage II
from the top of the gravel to the top of the clay vein. All
areas partially reclaimed are colored green.
(3) Clay - Mining will continue is Stage I, no new area will be
disturbed this year because we are mining in the area strip-
ped by the sand and gravel operator. We will mine deeper
into the clay veins exposed in the past and advance the face
to the north as more of the clay veins are exposed by the
gravel operation. This may mean we move into the southern
end of Stage II. Processing will continue in the Clay Plant
Site Area in Stage o (pink).
Gravel - Mining/stripping will continue in Stage II on the
north end of the clay operation. The sand and gravel opera-
tor has disturb most of the area in Stage II above the clay
vein and will concentrate on mining to the top of the clay
vein. Sand and gravel will continue to be mined in Stage A
this year and the Gravel Plant Site is located there also.
The material left on the clay seam is lower quality than
expected and material from Stage A has to be blended with it
to make an acceptable product.
