Introduction
• The information assembled in this 1999 Annual Hydrology Aeport (AHR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established at Seneca Coal Company's ($CC) Seneca
II-W Mine (State Permit No. C-82-057). Locations of monitoring sites discussed in this
report can be found by referring to Exhibit 7-1, Hydrology Monitoring Map, xhich may be
found in the Seneca II-W Permit Application Package (PAP).
~ All references to 1999 (or to "this year") will be for Water Yeas 1999 (October 1, 199E
i
through September 30, 1999) unless otherwise noted. All tables referred to in the
following tart can be found in Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents for Appendix
A is given at the begiFVFinq of that appendix. Figure 1 (Appendix A) shore the azea mined
in 1999. Hini ng began at Seneca II-W in August 1990.
Field conductivity and pH meters were calibrated prior to each day's use. The
conductivity meter is calibrated using a potassium chloride solution with an electrical
conductivity in the 1000 to 3000 umhos/® range. The pH meter is calibzated using NBS
traceable buffers with pH values of 7 and 10.
Prior to October 1, 198 9, all field conductivity values collected at Seneca II-W
monitoring Bites were not corrected for temperature (i.e., 25° C). Field conductivity
data starting on October 1, 1989 wets temperature correctetl to 25° C. The formula for
correcting non-corrected conductivity data may be found zn the 1990 through 1992 AFIRE.
5CC instituted in 1995 a nex monitoring site numbering system for its nex Paradox"' rater
quality database. This ner system ie detailed in Table A. For convenience sake, thin
table has been placed at the end of the Table of Conran to (sea pravioue page). In
addition, Table 3, Summary of Ground Water Monitoring Wells: Table 10, S++"'+'~+-y of Surface
Water Monitoring Sites; and the Table of Contents of Appendices C through E have all been
revised to correlate the old site (and map) name to the new (Paradox) computes name. The
ner computer name rill be used throughout the following text.
After their zevier of last year's Seneca II/ZI-W ARES, the CDMG made several sugges tione
to be incorporated into this yeaz'a AFIRE. The first comment rae about updating the ground
and surface rater standards tables presented in Tables 5 and 9. SCC reviexed the nex
Colorado Department of Health's (CDOH) standards and compared them to the AHR tables. No
