BLack-Eooted Ferret
This species is closely associated with prairie dog colonies where i[
relies on these rodents as important prey items. Based on the baseline
wildlife data and recent discussions with the mine perso~u~el, there are
Rio kiiuwn prairie dog colonies on or near the mine site. OS[•(RE uses this
fact to conclude that the proposed action would not affect the
black-Eooted Ferret.
Colorado SquawEish and Humpback Chub
While these species do not occur on the Edna site, the proposed action
would aFEect water resources that contribute flow to the Upper Colorado
River Basin. Since the USFiVS has stated tf~at any water depletion in the
Basin could aFEect these fishes, OSPff2E has evaluated the proposed ac tio~i
Eor potential water depletion. OS~QtE has determined that the proposed
action would result in an average annual depletion of 28 acre-feet.
OSbIRE hereby requests a biological opinion For the potential effects of
this depletion on the listed Eish species.
Summary
OSill2E has concluded that the proposed action would not affect listed
terrestrial species, but requests a biological opinion for the humpback
chub and Colorado squawfish.
IE you have any questions, please contact Don tlenne at (F'P5) 56d-2718.
