Drawer D
Hayden, CO 81639
RE: Seneca II Mine (C-80-005)
1996 Annual Hydrology Report & Annual Reclamation Report
Dear Mr. Altavilla,
The Division received the 1996 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR.j and Annua! Reclamation
Report (ARR) on 1\larch 3, 1997 and Apri14, 1997, respectively.
II~~~
DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL
RESOURCES
Roy Romer
Governor
Iame~ 5. LurhhreJ
E~ccuove DurUOr
ronchaclB Lung
Dmiriun Duruur
The ARR was submitted and is in compliance with Rule 2.04.13. In Tab 13, Seneca is required
to submit the as-built designs for stock tanks constructed during the reporting yeaz. There appear
to be a number of stock tanks that were cunstructed in 1996, and completed in 1997 that require
as-built certifications. Please provide the Division a copy of the stock tank certifications
constructed in 1996 and completed in 1997.
The AHR was found to be adequate and well-written. The Division agrees with the conclusion
and finds that the water data for 1996 substantiate the predictions in the Probable Hydrologic
Consequences of the permit. The Division has the following relevant comments regarding the
AHR;
The Division agrees with the interpretation of the groundwater levels and that they follow
the predictions in the permit.
2. It will be interesting to note how long it actually takes water with higher total dissolved
solids to migrate downgradient in the Cow Creek alluvium and show up in well S69A.
Currently, the TDS in S69A appears to be decreasing while that in the upgradient well,
S46A, is increasing.
The PHC predicted TDS in Fish Creek below Cow Camp and Bond Creeks to maximize
at about 600 mg/l. This prediction held in 1996, as the water in Fish Creek below the
confluence of these [wo tributazies ranged from 570 to X97 mg/l.
