•
Introduction
The information assembled in this 1994 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established at Seneca Coal Company's (SCC) Seneca
lI Mine (State Permit Mo. C-BO-005). Locations of monitoring sites discussed in this
report can be found by referring to Exhibit 7.2, Hydrology Monitoring Site Location Map.
Please remove the map from the 1993 AHR and place into this one.
All references to 1994 will be for Water Year 1994 (October 1, 1993 through September 30,
1994) unless otherwise noted. All tables referred to in the following text can be found
in Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents for Appendix A is given at the beginning
of that appendix.
Between October, 1993 end September, 1994, mining progressed as indicated by the shaded
areas on Figure 1 (Appendix A). From Figure 1 it is evident that strip mining is being
conducted simultaneously in two areas. In the southern permit area, the wadge coal seam
is being mined, and in the northern permit area the wolf Creek seam is being mined.
• Field conductivity and pH meters are calibrated prior to each day's use. The conductivity
meter is calibrated using a potassium chloride solution with an electrical conductivity in
the 1000 to 3000 umhos/cm range. The pH meter is calibrated using NBS traceable buffers
with pH values of 7 and 10.
Prior to October 1, 1989, all field conductivity values collected at Seneca II monitoring
sites were not corrected for temperature (i.e., 25° C). Field conductivity data starting
on October 1, 1989 were temperature corrected to 25° C. The formula for correcting
non-corrected conductivity data may be found in the 1990 through 1992 AHRS.
Meteorological Data
Precipitation data was obtained primarily at the Seneca !I Mine Meteorological Station
using a Beltort Weighing Bucket Rain Gage. Daily precipitation data for 1994 are
presented in Table 1. Total monthly precipitation data colleeted since 1981 are presented
in Table 2 (Appendix A). Where indicated, data from the U.S. Weather Service Hayden
Station were used. Temperature, wind speed and direction data ere presented in Appendix
• B. The date in Appendix B is from the Seneca II•w Mine Meteorological Sta[ion located
1
