W . T ROAT AP .REEK
Two ponds in the West Roatcap Creek drainage (refer to Table 5 and Map No. 4-1) were
monitored during 1996. The ponds were monitored quarterly for water levels and field
pazameters if they were discharging. The ponds were not accessible during the first
quarter monitoring because of the lingering snowpack. A water quality sample was
collected from both of the West Roatcap Creek ponds in May and the results were
consistent with baseline information collected in the past but flow rates were elevated.
No evidence of mine impacts was noted. The West Roatcap Creek ponds were physically
intact thought 1996 and showed no subsidence effects. No retreat mining was conducted
neaz any ponds during 1996 in the West Roatcap Creek drainage.
STEVENSGULCP
Two ponds were monitored within the Stevens Gulch drainage (refer to Table 5 and Map
No. 4-1). Ponds' 85 and 13-7 were monitored quarterly for water levels and field
parameters. Pond 13-7 had no measurable discharge, however, Bowie Resources was
able to collect a water sample. A water quality sample for Pond 85 was obtained in May.
• Pond 85 was undermined by Panel B in 1992. Pond 13-7 was also undermined during
]992. No subsidence impacts or other irregularities were evident at either of these
locations during 1996.
SiIRFACE WATER MONITORING STATIONS -SPRINGS
East Roatcaps'reek
Two springs were monitored in the East Roatcap Creek drainage (refer to Table 5
and Map No. 4-1) during 1996. The springs were not accessible during the fast
quarter monitoring because of the lingering snowpack. Spring 30 had measurable
flow in May, August and November. Water quality parameters taken in May were
consistent with previous sampling at this site. Spring 30 was encompassed by the
angle-of--draw of Panel Y during May of 1993. Spring 10-10 also had no
measurable flow in May, August and November therefore, no water quality
parameters were taken. Spring 10-10 was encompassed by the angle-of--draw of
Panel Y during September 1993 and retreat mining was done under it in 1994.
Subsidence impacts were not apparent at either of these locations during 1996.

Page -5-
